Lawrence graduated from Wits University in Physics and Mathematics, he then completed a Management Development Program at University of Stellenbosch and the BankSETA Executive Management Program in Canada. Lawrence has both attended and presented International Conferences on Credit related matters. He began his career as a Risk Analyst at Momentum Employee Benefits, before joining Nedbank in 2001 as an Interest Rate Derivatives and Long Dated FEC Trader/Quant. He started a Credit Derivatives Business at Nedbank Capital in 2003 (Johannesburg & London) and led the team until 2009, when he left to assume the role of CEO at Legae Securities. Lawrence is currently a member of the South African Institute of Financial Markets, and previously was the Chairman of Nedbank Capital Employment Equity Forum and a member of Nedbank Employment Equity Forum and Global Markets. Growing up he wanted to be an Electrical Engineer as he was interested in electronics and the mathematics behind them. His interest shifted to mainstream physics after working in the gold and diamond mines, he soon came to the realization that Electrical Engineers in South Africa end up being Maintenance Engineers.
